The Senate approves the Future Pensions Act

27 June 2023

The Future Pension Act contains the new pension rules of the government. As a result, the way in which we accrue pension will change and you will receive a new pension scheme in a few years’ time. Minister Schouten has indicated that the transition to the new pension scheme must be completed on 1 January 2028.

At the moment nothing will change about your pension or the pension scheme

Although the law will enter into force on 1 July 2023, nothing will change about your current pension yet. There are still a number of steps to be taken before the new pension scheme is in place. Until then, you will continue to accrue pension or receive pension based on the current pension scheme.

It is now up to the employer and the social partners

IFF and the social partners are discussing the translation of the new rules into a new pension scheme. That will still require a lot of work. It will take a number of years before it is clear what this new pension scheme will look like. The pension fund is not responsible for the agreements about this new scheme, but IFF and the social partners keep us informed. After the agreements have been made we will need quite some time to process the new pension scheme in all systems. This transition must be completed on 1 January 2028.

The interests of the members are taken into account

The social partners represent the interests of the members at the negotiating table when making the agreements. They ensure a balanced outcome for everyone.
